Artist Statement

Candace’s admiration of abstract art began at age fourteen, when she fell in love with John McCracken’s Red Plank on a school trip to The Art Institute Chicago. Using color and texture as guides, Primack longs to push the boundaries of her materials in experimental ways. Adding, subtracting, layering, sanding and pouring allow her mechanisms that build interest on a variety of surfaces. She states, “Getting lost in the process is why I create art. It is this meditative technique that allows me to work on a subconscious level, guided by intuition and instinct, rather than focusing on a preconceived outcome.  I feel so grateful that as an artist, I have the opportunity to work through my emotions on any given day, whether they be joy, grief, sadness, anger, etc., I have a physical way of being able to get to the root of it all, allowing me to move forward. Living in a world where healing is needed, on so many levels, I find art to be a balm to the soul and brings life to the spirit. My hope is that my work will do the same for others.”

Inspired by travel, nature, and random acts of kindness, she strives to infuse thought, joy and beauty into all she creates.

Candace’s work has been collected in Europe, Asia and throughout North America. Her paintings have also been used in a number of movies, commercials, music videos and television series.
